VIRGINIA WOOLF (b.1882) was an English novelist and essayist during the early 20th century. Her writing is particularly notable in her ability to navigate through a continuous stream of human emotions within her characters and within any common conversation or situation.

Two of her protagonists may be sitting exchanging simple conversation but the descriptions she offers of their internal dialogue is striking: from curiosity, to passion, to excitement, to disinterest, to boredom, to hunger, to anger, to frustration, to tenderness, to affection, to forgiveness, to love and to kinship all within the scope of a few moments in conversation.
