THEY LIVE is a 1988 film directed by John Carpenter. The movie is based on Ray Nelson's 1963 short story "Eight O’Clock in the Morning." The film is a science fiction thriller which depicts a world in which aliens run the planet as the rich and elite and they brainwash the rest of use through subliminal messaging imbedded in Television, advertising and pop culture in general. In order for a normal human to detect the subliminal messaging he must wear a set of dark sunglasses.
