THE TWILIGHT ZONE is an American television series created by Rod Serling in 1959 and broadcast on the CBS network. Coinciding with the futuristic quality of the television in living-rooms, the series began at a time during which many science fiction genres where blossoming.

Each short episode (usually a half hour) focused on a new character and a story that was a mix of "self-contained fantasy, science fiction or horror, often concluding with a macabre and unexpected twist."

Although the series is usually labeled a science fiction program, its true sphere was fantasy, embracing elements of the supernatural, the psychological, and "the almost-but-not-quite; the unbelievable told in terms that can be believed"
