WERNER HERZOG (b.1942) is a German Filmmaker often associated with the New Wave movement (the german film movement which included Fassbinder and Wenders). Throughout his career he has produced an enormous body of work with almost 50 films to date. His stories are most often positioned as documentary, his subject matter somehow ground in fact. However he has openly positioned himself with ambiguity in this regard. IN his manifesto entitled the 'Minnesota declaration' he describes his ability to find heightened truth in fiction.
His films often feature fallen heroes, people with unique aspirations and talents and sometimes a tragic end.
