ROBERT IRWIN (b.1928) is an american artist based in Los Angeles. He famously refuses to categorize his work as minimalism and would rather the denomination of 'perceptual'. His installations and sculptures are in fact remarkably subtle and require from the viewer to be actively looking. Almost the reverse of a pop optical illusion,

Irwin's scrims and light colored paintings invite a slow gaze, and a slower pace. Famously his series of line paintings, 10 in all, took him 2 years to complete. His audience often describes the almost spiritual experience of his aesthetic gestures, the 'ah-ha' moment of discovery which follows the initial visual deception.
